History of Photography
If you plan on making a career out of photography it is a good idea to take a History of Photography class. Generally, a History of Photography course will take you through the history of photography from beginning to the present day. You will learn all about the image making process from different time periods. Most courses will not only cover photography but other forms of media such as painting, sculpture and music.
Interesting things that may be covered in a History of Photography course include the study of particular artists. This study will include the challenges these artists faced in their lives as they tried to bring images to life using only the rudimentary equipment and techniques that were available during their time periods.
Generally speaking, most History of Photography classes will be divided up between discussions, film and video screenings, slide lectures and projects. In addition, most instructors will ask that students do a research project on a particular photographic idea, age, movement or artist. This project generally includes a research paper between 5-10 pages which will be turned in at the end of the course.
