Nightlife Photography
Don’t put that camera away just because it is night time. Nightlife photography is an art unto itself. There are some people who specialize only in nightlife photography. Have you ever tried to do nightlife photography before? It is something that every budding photographer should try their hand at – at least once!
You do not have to go out and purchase a special camera to being nightlife
photography. Most cameras come with shutter speed ranges that will accommodate
low light pictures.
Uniquely enough, you need to turn off your camera’s automatic flash
to truly get awesome night pictures. The biggest obstacle to nightlife photography
is keeping the camera still. You may want to bring along a tripod or other
device which will provide support to the camera. Also, use the auto preview
to your advantage. If you take a picture and it is too dark you should manually
adjust the camera and repeat the process until you have the right balance.
So, what are some interesting nightlife photography locations? Anywhere! There is virtually no area that cannot be photographed. Try standing on top of a high building and taking a picture of the skyline. Stand on a bridge that covers a road and take pictures of passing cars as they stream down the road. Other places where you can get nice shots include amusement parks, shop windows and water fronts. When the moon is full use it to your advantage to get some nice scenic shots.
Nightlife photography can take a bit of time to master. However, once it clicks you will be off and running. Be patient with yourself and don’t give up too soon. Write down the techniques you are using so you can go back to them and see where adjustments can be made in the future.
