Pet Photography
Pet photography can really be challenging. The problem is that pets do not understand they are getting their pictures made and most of them are more interested in you and your camera than posing. Here are some tips to help you with pet photography:
- Give your pet something to play with that will get his focus off you and your camera. Pet photography that captures a pet at his most playful is truly unique.
- Use a noise maker to get your pet to look at you. Many people in the pet photography business will have a squeaky toy hidden behind the camera. Make it squeak and your pet will look up at the camera. Be sure to take the shot fast before your pet comes to see what all the noise is about.
- A great time for pet photography is after a long day when your pet is nodding off to sleep. Squeeze the squeaky toy, or say your pet’s name, and snap the shot as your pet becomes alert and looks at you.
- Have someone play with your pet while you take pictures. Have them play and step back so you can capture your pet when he is at his playful best.
- Stalk your pet when he is unaware. For instance, you can find your cat sitting on top of a birdhouse or your dog digging up a hiding place for a bone.
- If you want to photograph a small pet such as a mouse or hamster have someone assist you. Have your helper hold the animal in their hand. Another idea is to take a picture of your pet rodent in his exercise wheel. Using the right shutter speed his legs will be a blur but his head will be clear and sharp.
Pet photography can be challenging. But, with a little bit of patience you can come away with some nice pictures of your pet.
