Wildlife Photography

Wildlife photography has many uses.  Perhaps the most common use is for scientists to be able to better study certain species and see how they act in their own natural environment.  The idea of wildlife photography has been around for many years.  The actual process of taking wildlife photographs can be daunting since the photographer often has to put him or herself in an environment that can sometimes be dangerous.  The idea of wildlife photography is to capture animals behaving naturally in their own environments without disturbing them.

This gives us as humans a much better insight into their behavior and habits, as well as an opportunity to see certain animals in a different light.  It can be difficult to get good wildlife photos.  This is due to several factors which can include a harsh environment and dangerous circumstances.  Many times the photographer will cover themselves in camouflage so as not to be seen by the animal.  Otherwise they may disturb or frighten them, ruining the opportunity for a candid and effective photograph.

Wildlife photography is often used in educational books, documentaries, and magazines that discuss nature and science.  These photographers may not make as much income as artistic photographers or the paparazzi, but they do the job because they love animals and love capturing them on film.  Often special lenses are needed that can allow the photographer to get good, clear shots from a far away distance.  These lenses are usually longer in length than traditional lenses, so a tripod is also used in order to make handling the camera easier for the photographer.  Wildlife photography gives us all a new insight into the wild and wonderful world of animals, and how they think and act.   It also supplies us with a never ending resource to seeing and experiencing how animals live.
